Getting Camera Ready

Getting Camera Ready

Video is now the number One way to communicate. We all use video in our every day lives; whether participating in a Zoom call, an online conference, live-streaming, FaceTiming with friends - we all use Video.

Here are some tips from The Los Angeles Method to help you get Camera Ready.

1.

Prepare your Voice. Use breathing techniques and tongue twisters to “wake up” your voice muscles. The most important element is sound. We need to be able to hear you to connect with what you are saying.

2.

Know your objective before you turn on the camera. What do you want your audience to feel and think? What is the overall objective of your talk / presentation? Knowing your objective and being able to word it in one sentence, will help you stay on track and have confidence.

3.

Look into the lens. Do not look at your self in the monitor. Looking into the lens is like looking into a person’s eyes. Everyone will feel you are talking to them.

4.

Talk to one person. In theatre we say “The more personal a performance, the more universal”. The same applies here. Decide your ideal audience member and talk to them. Create a persona and connect with them.

5.

Be prepared and flexible. Be present and ready to make adjustments. As Picasso said “Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist”.
